    shaft drive extention?

Anyone heard of a shaft drive being extended? Trying to extend the swingarm slightly, but need to find a way to extend the shaft first...

Im sure there are some people that have done it on drag bikes....

    Shaft Extension(?)

Had a 80 Yamaha 1100 turbo shaft bike that had a 3 inch swing arm and shaft extension. It was done by Strange Enginering. Worked great at the track. It was really expensive. I think about $2500.00 back then... Probably not what you are thinking of spending...

yah, i really dont want to put 3 times what I have in the whole bike into the shaft... ha ha.

Maybe another kind of bike has a longer shaft, but same diameter and teeth? Anyone tried that?

I would think that if you had two driveshafts and a competent welder, you could do it rather affordably.

Just out of curiosity ... what'cha got cookin'?

People do this all the time for car and truck driveshafts, so it should be possible to have a longer shaft made out of two. I'd want to find a specialist to do the work, just to make sure it's still round and somewhat balanced.

You should be able to find an extra driveshaft pretty easily on Fleabay or in the "Parts Wanted" section.

Prop shop should be able to balance it after they've welded it.....

I doubt it. Maybe, MAYBE another Zook, but im pretty sure the number of teeth in the Zook design is pretty specific. Maybe not tho.

The shaft isn't that big of a deal to extend. Depending on the length I'd be more curious about your mods to the swingarm and the potential for flex unless you make some additions there too for bracing.

I dont know yet... Bought a engine and frame from a friend that is my project... I have a couple directions that I could go in, and just seeing my options on either.... I would go back to stock, but that would cost way to much. I can buy all kinds of odds and ends parts on ebay and build a bike for a lot cheaper. I love the looks of the 50's style bikes, so was going to try to go in that direction. Or maybe a street fighter type bike... We'll see...
