Size limitation on Tires for GS300L

Anyone know of the a bigger rear tire I can go with on the GS300L. My tires are currently 120/90-16 & 3.00-18 . There will be no more rear fender on the 300, so that will not be a problem.

Those sound like good sizes to me for a small bike but you might go for a 90/90-18 front. Cheng Shin Himax tires would be a good choice.

I wanted to go for a 130/90 rear.. anyone ever tried to fit it? I already removed the wheel.. and didn't really think about it before removing if it would fit or not.

What is the rim width on the rear? It may be the limiting factor not the tire cleadance. If you put a tire on a narrower rim than it is designed for, it will distort the tire and you will not get the designed contact patch, and you may actually decrease the traction and handling below what you would have with a correctly sized narrower tire. Most manufacturers give specifications of designed rim widths for each tire model and size.

If you are after a particular "look", go ahead and try to fit the widest tire that you can.

BUT ... like 76FJ55 says, the rim on the bike is meant for a particular range of widths, and anything much bigger than one size larger than what came on it originally might compromise handling.

SO ... if you plan on actually riding the bike, stick to the stock size or just one size over.

And, I'll second the nomination for Cheng Shin Hi-Max tires. Decent grip, good life, great price, but grab them quick, they are halting production on them.

I can check what we have on our GS300L this weekend. 130 would probably work though .. wouldn't go any wider.

I was actually looking at these:

They come in a 120/80/16 that may work for me.. and I can match the exact same tire in a 90/90/18 for the front.. would work perfect!
