    ok what am i forgetting?

I took my gs750 completely apart over the last week or 2.. i took it apart to paint the frame black instead of the red that it was... I got the motor back into the back with minimal scratching of the frame... Well i tried to start the bike today just to see if it would run or not.... nothing nothing...headlight and tail work fine..nothing though..... so then i go to the parts store and buy a starter solonoid b/c there was no power to one side... then the bike starts to turn over ... it turns over and turns over and nothing... i put new plugs in ... i sat the tank on top and connected it and kept cranking and it wont start ... what am i missing ? ?????? i know it has to be something stupid/ simple of course but what am i missing? let me know if you guys have any suggestions....

    thank you very much

Have you checked to make sure you have the coil leads from the igniter run to the correct coils. If they are backward it will not run at all.

Make sure kill switch is on, pull in clutch to complete lockout connection and take a spark plug out, grounding it to the eng. If it sparks, it isnt a wiring problem. If it doesnt spark, take a continuity tester and with the ignition turned on, check for continuity on the ignition lead. If thats good, plug it back in and check the output side of the kill switch, if that is good, plug it back in and check the output side of the clutch lockout switch, it that is good, check the striped wires on the coil + terminals. After that check that you didnt paint over the grounding surfaces where the coils bolt to the frame.
If everything so far is OK, check the black and white wires (power leads tot he ignition points) under the left side cover to see if you have continuity on them.

Pull the fuel line off the petcock and switch the petcock to prime to see if any fuel comes out. If it does, reinstall fuel line, turn petcock to prime, count off 15 seconds and switch it back to run. Pull out choke and check underneath to see that the cable is actually lifting the choke plungers. try starting it. if nothing happens, then remove one of the drain plugs on a carb bowl to see if there is actually gas in the bowl.

                    Lemme know :-)

hold on maybe i misunderstood ur last post....

when i ground the plug to the engine am i supposed to try to start it ? or just touch the plug to the engine?????????? if i'm just supposed to touch it then there is no spark or anything.... ????????

on the fuel part.... i put it to prime and there is gas coming from some ?vents on the carbs just pooring out onto the engine now why is this??????????? let me know guys

                      thank you

Yes, you were supposed to ground the plug to the engine, turn the ignition on and press the starter and check for spark.

Even on the prime setting, gas should not come out the overflow tubes on the carbs. Either your float heights are wrong, your floats are sticking (all?) or your float needles are not sealing. I set my float heights to 25-26 mm. You will need to take the 4 carb rack off the bike, turn the carbs upside down, remove the bowls and set the float heights with the weight of the float resting on the tab the holds the float needle down. If you put a piece of tubing on the fuel inlet to the carbs, you should not be able to blow air through the tube when holding the carbs upside down with the floats resting on the float needles. If you can, most likely you need to replace "O" rings on the float needles. This problem has to be resolved as the bike will not run with a fuel level so high as to be pouring out the overflow tubes.
