Engine part identification

Can someone tell me what that small block with the two hose nipples comming out of the engine case is? It's located next to the starter and just below the cam chain tensioner. I'm sure it has something to do with the oiling system but can't figure out what. My engine is not installed so I can't tell what the hoses would go to.

Also, why is it only on some engines? My '79 GS750 8V has it, my '82 GS750 16V does not. I think later Katanas have it too.

It sounds like it is the oil pressure sender with a connection for an oil cooler.

The top end oiler comes out from the top of the block behind the starter by the oil temp switch and has two hoses which of course head to the head
At least it does on my 83 but I have to make new hoses this winter.

Someone installed an aftermarket oil cooler adapter on your engine. You can replace it with a stock oil pressure sensor plate if you are not going to run an oil cooler.
