storing bike over the winter

I have a gs 450L, over the winter i want to replace all the side cover gaskets and buff the covers. will it hurt to leave the bike stored over the winter with the oil drained out?

the remaining oil will stick to the surfaces even after draining so you should be fine leaving the engine without the oil for a while.
i would want to make sure though that dust and dirt dont get into the engine while it's open

Best thing to do is to stabilize the gas in the tank and carb bowls before you put it into storage.

You know that it only takes a day to polish the case covers?
That's all it took me to do my wife's covers. When you have all your gaskets, bring the covers on down, we can put on a new buffing wheel and break out a new tube of rouge, then you can go home with all your shiny covers and put them on.
