    Source for carb hoses

I'm looking for an after-market source for the two sizes of black vent hoses for the carbs of my '78 GS750C. Although these hoses should probably be gas resistant, I doubt that they will ever actually have gasoline in them (maybe just vapor). Buying factory replacements seems to be incredibly expensive for a few short pieces of tubing!

    Thanks,
    rickt

    Hi Mr. rickt,

I've picked up rubber fuel line from my local Pep Boys stores. I believe you'll need 8mm (about 5/16") for the fuel hose and 6mm (1/4" may be a smidgen too big) for the vacuum hose (inside diameter). The vent hoses are probably 5mm so 3/16" should be close enough. The diameters on SAE sizes may vary a little, depending on the manufacturer.

    Thank you for your indulgence,

    BassCliff

You can get metric Viton tubing (and lots of other cool stuff besides) from McMaster-Carr:
McMaster-Carr is the complete source for your plant with over 595,000 products. 98% of products ordered ship from stock and deliver same or next day.

But I'd just grab some 1/4" vacuum line at the local auto parts emporium, which usually works fine on 6mm fittings. 5/16" works on 8mm fittings, and 3/16" usually works fine on 5mm fittings.

1/4" actually works out to 6.3mm, so some brands of 1/4" tubing or fuel line are a little loose. Just try a different brand from another store if this happens.

The sizes you want are 4.5 mm for the vent and vacuum hose, 5 mm for the vents and 7 mm for the fuel line. Those sizes are inside diameter and supposedly you can order the hose from Suzuki and get about a metre of hose. If we could only get a valid part number for the hoses we'd be set. I really don't want to just throw a part number at them and end up waiting only to find out I ordered what would end up being an expensive 5" piece of hose. If anybody out there has these part numbers (especially for the 4.5 mm stuff) inquiring minds want to know. LOL.

I use 5/16" fuel line for the fuel, and 3/16" fuel line for the vacuum lines, from the local Napa store.

The 3/16" fuel line is a bit large in the OD for the vent nipple at the carb end, but it's pretty hefty stuff so i know it will last for a long time, and not collapse...

I am reviving this because I have the same question. I would like to get some OEM 7mm ID fuel hose (the black, thin-wall rubber hose) but I am getting confused when I look at the parts fiche for the parts number. It has been a while since I lifted the bike's tank, but when I look at the "Fuel Cock fiche" (doesn't seem to matter for which 1980/85-ish GS), I think the main fuel line is the hose labelled "5" in the diagram. This cross-references to (replacement) part number 09352-70103-00B. However, the description is "HOSE, WATER DRAIN". Now I am confused. Can anyone confirm that this is, in fact, the standard OEM black rubber 7mm fuel line? Or, alternatively provide the correct part number, which should be standard across most of our GS bikes.

BTW, the parts fiche that I am referencing are those at http://flatoutmotorcycles.com (specifically http://flatoutmotorcycles.com/fiche_...1983&fveh=2139 ) , with the correct part numbers supplied (as opposed to BikeBandit)
