    r/r again

Well, this is the 3rd GS1100 I've purchased in the last few years. Sure enough, after over 400 miles on the 1100E, I put the multimeter on the charging system(because I'm paranoid) and it was drifting up to 16.5-17 volts. I had normal readings when I purchased it but the stock one turned crap again. Luckily the sealed battery is still good.
Ordered my 3rd Honda r/r replacement from DUANEAGE, received it within 2 days, put it on today and now have nice 14.55-14.7 readings.
Thank you sir for another happy ending. I've bought 3 of these for the price of one stock one!!
When I tried to disconnect the rear brake wire plug to splice in the black lead it wouldn't budge. Sprayed a little WD40 in it, waited 15 minutes, and they slid apart easily. Double checked my connections, fired it up to verify readings again after putting everything back together and now it's ready for the road tomorrow!
If you have a stock GS r/r, again, I would recommend you take a reading on a regular basis.

    Great preventative maintenance tip.

I have a Duaneage special r/r, new stator and new battery. I still try to check my charging system once a month or so, and every time I suspect that anything might be getting wacky.

The bright beam went out on my headlight recently, the low still worked. I replaced the bulb and put a multimeter on my battery. I wanted to make sure the r/r wasn't putting out too much voltage and frying my lights. Everything was in spec. I guess it was just time for this bulb to go. I suppose, with all the vibration, they don't last as long as car headlights. This is my second SilverStar H4 bulb in as many years.

Is one a year a lot? I ride every day with my bright light on all the time, day and night.

    Thank you for your indulgence,

    BassCliff

Over the last couple of years and 3 GS1100 bikes, only the ES had low beam go out on me. Seems like one a year is a lot.

Using high beam all the time I'm sure will shorten the life of the silverstar. Any finger prints will do it too!
