+1 Drain plug as temporary fix NEED I WORRY???
I replaced my drain plug with a +1 as a temporary fix after I stripped the last hole during the oil change. I have since completed a problem free 2000 mile trip (pictures to follow as soon as I post them) and it is time for an oil change. Do I have anything to worry about with this +1 plug for another 3k miles or do I have to resort to something more drastic? It (*knock on wood* hasn't leaked a drop of oil since the +1) so will it be fine for another change? My '80 gs850 is my ONLY transportation so down time is not an option.Tags: None

Hi Mr. s32k1,
Shouldn't really be an issue. Just don't strip it again. If it starts leaking again you may have to think about a repair (Helicoil or Timesert?) or picking up a good used pan.
There are still plenty of good suggestions in your original thread:

I used Save-A-Thread brand from Auto Zone. Mine was a size 14x1.25 inside thread. It's in stock no special order required unless they are sold out.
It was only $29.99 and worth every penny. It has a tap and you DO NOT need to drill it. It is self drilling and tapping in one step.
Use vaseline on the tap so you don't get chips in the pan.
It is similiar to a Time-Sert which is way better than a heli-coil ( DO NOT HELI-COIL ).
I used red thread locker and all you do is using the included punch after threading it in, just lightly set the thread insert and you are done.
Cheaper than Time-serts for this application and gives peace of mind that it is done right.
The futo valve is a good choice after you do this.
Hope this helps
