    carb pods

    these silver carb / air pods, really like they way they look.
    trying to clean up the way my bike looks.
    i measured the diameter and they were 2.0 across, which i think is 50 mm.
    they must work, cause i see them all the time, but what are they
    exactly? just an individual air filter? will i need to have the carbs adjusted?

    K&N pods? Do you already have some?
    What bike are you planning on using these on?
    You will have to rejet. Depends on what type of carbs buy I'd get a Dynojet kit.
    1983 GS 1100E w/ 1230 kit, .340 lift Web Cams, Ape heavy duty valve springs, 83 1100 head with 1.5mm oversized SS intake valves, 1150 crank, Vance and Hines 1150 SuperHub, Star Racing high volume oil pump gears, 36mm carebs Dynojet stage 3 jet kit, Posplayr's SSPB, Progressive rear shocks and fork springs, Dyna 2000, Dynatek green coils and Vance & Hines 4-1 exhaust.

        Yes, they are just individual air filters.

        Please note that they are not all the same. Some, like K&N, are cotton-fiber filters that need to be oiled to do their filtering job. Others, like EMGO, are paper and do not need oil. The K&Ns can be cleaned, re-oiled and re-used. The EMGOs can not be cleaned, so must be replaced.

        Advantages:
        1. Some claim that it makes it so much easier to remove the carbs for tuning. They forget that the reason they are tuning the carbs is because they put on the pod filters and therefore need to tune the carbs.
        2. There are also claims for more power due to better breathing. That assumes that they are clean and properly oiled. (If you over-oil a K&N filter, you can effectively strangle it because air can not get past the oil.)
        3. To really take advantage of 'better breathing' you should also install a 4-into-1 pipe, but that is another issue.

        Disadvantages:
        1. Mentioned above is the possibility of over-oiling a filter.
        2. There is also the task of making sure that all four filters are oiled the same amount, or their difference in breathing ability will affect the mixture for that carb.
        3. If you use K&N filters, the process of cleaning, drying and re-oiling usually lasts overnight, so it takes some planning.
        4. Some have mentioned that the filter will plug up if it gets wet in the rain.

            The only thing I dislike about them was the whistling, wheezing, air sucking sound when you get on the throttle.
            Second: Man what good, no, great looking bikes !! If I sent my 1100E to you could you make it look like yours ?

              yeah, i run k&n on my jeep, so i am use to the ritual, lol!!
