Dyna S and mechanical advance question
My bike left me stranded on the expressway last Thursday morning on my way to work. Not a fun place to be stuck at 6:00 am in the dark. However when I got the bike home, I tested the igniter and it appears to be bad again. I replaced it back in the spring with a used igniter from a Philly bone yard that has now also given up the ghost. I am planning on getting a Dyna S to replace the whole thing. My question is will the mechanical advance from an 80 GS850 work on my 82 GS1100L engine? Thanks for all your help.Tags: None

I don't think anyone has ever tried... not that I know of in any case. I would think even if it fits the advance curve for the 8v might be different to the 16v engine.
You could try it & see... as long as the advance curves are similar it "should" be ok.
You could fit a Dyna 2000, more expensive though obviously.

Dan
I thought about the Dyna 2000, but cost is making go with the Dyna S.

I assume the advance curve is the same for the 1100G and 850 since the ‘82+ ignitor part number is the same (these bikes have the advance curve built into the ignitor).
Regarding the mechanical advance units, I think they are the same but you might want to check the part numbers between the 1980 850 and 1000G. If the part numbers are the same, I’m pretty sure the part will fit on your 1100G.Ed
