The coil on the left goes to 1&4 and the right coil goes to 2&3. That's if the leads from the ignitor haven't been crossed up. You can tell by the length of those which coil they go to. You should have an orange/white going to each. Then a white to the left coil and a black/yellow to the right.

      Billy,

In regards to those other wires, I DO have an orange/white one going to both coils. Does it matter, however, what side of each coil they go on? More specifically, on the back of a coil there are two places to attach the orange/white wire and also the white or black/yellow wire. Should the orange/white wires be hooked to the inner part of the coil? See pic:

      Thanks!

      Rudi

Rudi, I'm not able to see the pictures. I'll go out and look at my bike, but Billy's the man.

Rudi - I just looked under the tank and the orange and white wires are attached to the inboard sides of the coils. Billy would know the difference and whether or not it matters, but that's the way my bike is and it does everything it's supposed to do.

Your coils are hooked up backwards as far as the white wire and the black/yellow. Black/yellow should be firing 2&3. White 1&4.

It doesn't really matter which way you hook up the primary wires. Those wires are acting to switch the coils. Dyna coils aren't marked either. If I were going bythe wiring diagram the orange/white wires would be on the outboard terminals. I've never really worried about which way they get hooked up. Right now my orange/white wires are both on the left terminals of each coil.

I see...I'll attempt to fix this when I get home. If that doesn't work, hopefully Hap, Tim and you can identify why my bike isn't starting. I'm absolutely DYING to get this bike on the road!!

By the way, I'm grilling all sorts of food for you guys...so bring your appetite!

Rudi - Glad Billy could help. Obviously, I could tell you what I saw, but that's about it.

The ride sounds nice, bike's running great, but the commute is a long ways across some really dull terrain.

Good luck getting you bike ready for the ride.

Just wanted to clear up something in case anyone ever references this in the future. After 18 years of pulling mine on and off I finally realized there are +/- symbols cast into the resin that seals up the coils on the end where the terminals are located. The orange/white hot, or the set of wires that is common to both coils, goes on the left + terminal of stock coils. The individual wires, usually black/yellow for the right coil and white for the left go to the right terminal on each coil.

I tried like hell to get out of here early Friday Rudi. I wish I could have been there, but alas, I live in the land of manana. I missed out on quite a bit of the festivities with it having been when it was. It was pretty damn hot out on the ride. It would be nice to try to do it in April instead of June. I think everyone is already looking forward to the next ride.

We may be coming in for Father's Day so I could give you a hand that Saturday afternoon with the carbs if you need any help. We hope to be moved back to San Antonio by about October. Once your bike is running right maybe we could get together for a ride during the summer. It would give you a chance to check out the hills a little before the October ride.
