Did you try jumping the solenoid using a screw driver across the 2 big terminal ? Any clicking noise ? Whats the battery voltage?

Your question is too vague.
Does the starter turn the motor over, and it won't start up?
Does the starter not turn the motor over?1978 GS 1000 (since new)

These bikes had a safety switch in the clutch lever when they left the factory.
Some of us have disconnected them, others still exist.

Mr. Brown
Mine did this to me at Wal Mart a few days ago. A old dude rolled past me in a motorized shopping cart, "Bet I could beat you!" Thanks, pops...
Pulled the ignition fuse and found corrosion on the terminals. Scraped 'em off, and it fired up.
Good luck!

one solved...now another
Ok clutch lever was the trick..starter turns but now I have anudder problem...poured gas in the tank and it is running out a tube beneath the engine like a faucet...carbs are dry... the previous owner drained the gas,,,is there a plug somewhere??Last edited by Guest; 11-11-2008, 10:26 PM.

OK, I have to go back to basics here.
1. You do have a petcock installed?
2. There are two hoses connected to the petcock?
2a. Smaller hose goes from the back side of the petcock to a nipple on carb #2.
2b. Larger hose goes from the outlet of the petcock to a T between carbs 2&3.
3. The petcock is NOT in the PRIme position?
3a. In the PRIme position, it will flow freely. (PRIme is with the lever pointing backward.)
3b. In the ON position, it will flow when the engine is running and vacuum is applied to the diaphragm, but fuel is drawn from the top of a tube that is a couple of inches above the bottom of the tank. (ON is with the lever pointing down.)
3c. In the REServe position, vacuum is also necessary for fuel flow, but now fuel is drawn from the bottom of the tank, allowing you to use that last gallon or so. (REServe is with the lever pointing forward.)
There will also be another hose that goes to a shield that covers the bottom of the fuel gauge sending unit. It is only there in case there is a leak from the gasket, and will direct any fuel away from the top of the engine, down, behind the engine, onto the ground. Usually, there should be NO fuel coming out that line.

Still have a gas leak
Still have gas leaking out the bottom of the bike...where should the gas line on the right be connected? I pour gas in and drains out the bottom?
