What forks will fit my 82 gs1100gl?

iv decided to repair my wrecked 82 gs1100gl. the forks will need replaced and i was wondering what other model bikes forks will fit mine, including the triple tree, and having all of the other parts attached fit ok as well, wheel, calipers etc.., there is a member on here, sqdancerlynn1, that is nice enough to offer me his forks from his 80-81 gs1000gl, i just want to be 100% sure that they would fit. im assuming that the forks and triple tree of a gs850gl would fit? thanks.

The fork legs themselves are the same for the 850L, 1000L, & 1100L. I am not sure about the steering head. I measured the steering heads on mine and they all are approximately the same size. My 81 has the choke cable that goes through the stem so you might have to reuse your upper stem nut. Someone else might know for sure but I would think the 81 forks should work for you. While you have the forks off put some new Progressive springs in.
They are worth every penny. (See below signature)

Lynn is a woman and I'm not sure she square dances on a prosthetic.
The forks will fit and posplayr has a good triple tree. I bet he'll sell it to you.

The forks are from an 80-81 GS1000L not my 850 & should fit fine, even 850 forks would fit. Grandpa put 850 forks on his GS1100GK when he had his bambiecide (is that a word?) !! My user name is my favorite past time Square dancing and I do it often 2-3 times a week

Any "L" fork from an 850 up will pretty much work. The only other thing to mind is length, but as long as you stick with the "L" shaftie models, you should be just fine. The 850 was the heaviest GS produced, with exception to the GK, but you can see why that thing weighs what it does. Oddly enough, an 850G is actually HEAVIER than an 1100G. Dont ask me why...
