    Pilot Jet Question

On my 82 GS650e, I noticed the pilot jet in the #1 carb has no holes along the side like the pilot jets in #2, 3, and 4. Is there a reason for it?

All the pilot jets have the same numbers on them (#40)

Should I put it back in or go to the stealership and order another one?

    Please let me know.

    Thanks

It'll work fine. The stock pilot jets didn't have the holes. All the jets I've seen sold new have the holes. Don't sweat it.
    Does it run ok?

I am in the process of doing a complete cleaning of all 4 carbs inside and out. (dipping and polishing) Before I started the work, I was getting a backfire through one of the carbs (couldn't tell which one) and the left side was running rich (I can smell it in the exhust)

I am going to go with your advice and not worry about it. After I get the carbs re-installed (after bench sync) I will check it out. I also have to repair the vacuum hose fitting on the top of the air box (it broke). I think I am going to replace the air filter and get rid of the K&N.

      Thanks for your help.

i would have thought that those holes on the pilot jet would play a role on the changeover from idle to throttle, i.e changeover from the pilot circuit to the main circuit?

if so, i'd like them all the SAME

Same amount of fuel gets through. I think the holes add a mixture of air to the fuel.

To change or not to change? That is the question. I think I will change it out just so that all of the jets are the same, that way I can rule it out if I have problems with the idle.

Thanks guys. You are a big help.
