    '83 1100E Progressive Springs Question

I'm getting the parts together for my winter project and am looking to do the Progressive Springs mod when I replace the leaking fork seals.

My question is, what is proper Progressive Spring part number to order? Is it simply the replacements listed for my 83 1100E? Or are the springs needed from some other model since this mod will eliminate the need for the air?

    Hope that makes sense.

    Thank you.

No, just order the springs listed for your model and drop them in. IIRC, you won't even need to make any spacers, but this may not be true for your exact model.

The Progressive springs are firmer, and eliminate the need for using air pressure as an additional "spring". Basically, the air trapped in the fork acts as a supplemental spring when the fork compresses.

However, adding air pressure in forks is somewhat unreliable and places additional stress on the fork seals, so it's far better to simply put better springs in there.

The new springs will absolutely transform your bike. Pretty important for all those southern Indiana twisties!

Hope you're planning to make the Brown County rally next May -- it's in your back yard.

Don't forget the rear shocks while you are at it. If you have the originals on the back they must go. Progressive, Hagon, Icon, anything is better than OEM.

Thanks for the advice, just wanted to double check before placing an order.

BWRINGER, Thanks for the invite, I have actually been on the Brown County Tour in '05 and '06. My bike is the ugly brown/reddish color '83 1100E. I remember trying to keep up with you and wound up taking a little detour through a cornfield! No harm done though...just a few sticks to pick out of the exhaust. Hope to be able to make it in '09.

Oh, then you and Tim (twr1776) have something in common...

Actually I never told you this but I was hired by the county extension service to inspect the local crop conditions firsthand. I have since given up the positon.
