    i Just Got a 1982 Gs 850 L for $800.
    My tech =odomer is not working what do i do.

    remove the cable from the tach and see if it spins while running

        The cable screws on to the back of your tach, unscrew it ( its a barrel type fitting) pull it out untill you can look inside the housing, start your bike and see if the cable inside the housing is spinning. If the cable doesn't spin you likely have a broken tach cable (lesss than 20 bucks from Bike Bandit), if it does spin, the problem is likely in the tach.

              To get you by temporarily (in my case 1200 miles) you can take the cable out of the sleeve and JB weld it back together where it's broken.

                      Trace the sleeve down to the engine. It will be the same barrel type connection. (I think.)

                        How did we end up way over here in the tech forum? Can someone direct me to the OT?

                        He's right, and its an easy fix. No harm in leaving it alone though, mine hasn't worked in months. Who needs a tach, just a handfull of throttle and I'm good!

                          ok i check it out and the cable is broken at the end closest to the engine block.
                          Can i jb weld it.
