Jet Kit Question
Hello all, I have a question for a friend. He's looking for a jet kit for his 1981 gs550tx with a vance and hines 4-1 exhaust. The only jetkit either of us can find for a 4 carb gs550 is the 1982 katana model. My question is will the jet kit work for his tx? and if not does anyone know where you could find the proper jetkit for his model? Thanks for the help! -

devauxer,
Yes that is the correct dynojet kit, according to the information given to me by another GS'r, who got it from another GS'r The mild mods on that bike look great, and it supposedly performs very well. Anyway, here it is cut and pasted: (edit: I found the thread as well http://www.thegsresources.com/_forum...ad.php?t=71640 )
as promised all the info i have on getting as much power from the gs550 as you can...
http://www.macperformance.com/ give them a call directly and they can swap stock baffles for competition baffles (1.5?) at no extra cost. You can check out the pics at http://www.macprod.orc.ca/
Rear sets http://www.discovolantemoto.com/firstpage.html
A Jet kit from http://www.dynojet.com for a SUZ 82 GS550 KATANA part number 3314 will fit your bike if you have the bs32cv carbs on your bike
You could also call k and n and see if they have any extra jet kits for the above mentioned bike available for sale since they are currently having a clearance sale on jet kits. This is the current kit I have on my bike and it works fine.
You will also need to order k and n filters part number rc-2382 I found http://www.martelbros.com had the best price and shipping is free, you just need to order one set or 1 box I mean since 2 filters come per box and each filter goes on 2 carbs.
o-rings for carbs http://home.att.net/~robert.barr/#Outside%20of%20the
accel super coil kit part number 140403 NON-CDI http://www.accwhse.com/accell.htm#Coils good price - includes spark plug wires too.
http://www.powersportspro.com/Partsfish/Login.asp for micro fiche to get part numbers and http://www.ronayers.com/main.cfm to order the parts from to get best prices.
http://www.lockhartphillipsusa.com/p...ub3.asp?id=330 for a oil cooler or jc whitney
get the adapter from here

good prices on tires http://www.ronayers.com/ I had the Bridgestone spit fires and they were ok but now have some pirelli sport demons and these by far are the best sport tire for these bikes
good article on degreeing your cams here http://medlem.spray.se/biker66/index.html under ?my modifications? ?cam timing? very well done biker66
there is a 650 top end coversion that has been done ask Nerobro
I have also seen braided steel brake lines for our bikes but don't know where they are off hand.
There are also articles achieved in the GSR on how to make your own too lean / too rich sensor for your bike using a oxygen sensor
Other then that, thats all the info I have on making a 550 faster and the only stuff that have done to my bike to make it faster and has worked with minor problems are the jet kit, exhaust and coils, I plan on degreeing the cams this winter.
