Thanks for the input. Obviously this is a much more complex subject than can be addressed by trail alone. (confess I did not look at the Eigenvalue analysis either) The type of riding also seems to have a big bearing on how the trail/geometry is configured.

You know more about this than I do, but I suspect that somethings about bike geometry just doesn't apply to motorcycles and visa versa.

I have one of the standard models of Piniccale and wow was it a suprise to ride this on the mountain trails around here compared to Klein's much more sedat Mountain Trail

I was immediately faster on the Pinnicale on down hills compared to the Trail. Part of it was the steeper head tube, but the shorter chain stays made a huge diff also. I could break into slides for cornering with just a little weight shift while the Trail needed much more braking

As far as front suspension for my ED, in my lengthy previous posts I mentioned the 88 GSXR 1100 front suspension has identical trail to the 82-83 GS1100EZ/ED/ESD

Yea, but what is the head angle? The trail may be the same but if the head angle is different, there will be a difference in the fork offset.

For example, if the GSXR has a steeper head angle yet the same trail, that means the GSXR fork will have less offset. Putting that fork on the GS will slow the steering. Make sense?

Based on that formula in Wikipedia link, Trail was computed with head angle, offset and tire size. All else equal it would not mater how you got it. No???

The GS1100EZ compares to the 88 GSXR 1100

        Tire Size 3.5V-19 ...vs.......110/80-18
        Caster 62 deg ...vs.......63.5 deg
        Trail 116 mm .....vs.......116 mm

The Triple clamp offset are different and I calculate them to be

        Offset 52.5 mm 37.5 mm

This is close to my measurements of both. So with the ED head angle and GSXR forks I get drum roll please..........................

back to 106 mm of trail.

I guess this will quicken up my steering LOL
