dyna s timing ?
I have installed a dyna s on my 79 gs850 and have a question about statically timing it with a test light. Do I line up the mark that is before the "F" or the mark after "1-2" with the timing plate mark. Thanks for any helpTags: None

At idle it should line up with the F1&4. The second notch should line up when advancing at over 3000 RPMs. If it doesn't line up on the second I'd check your mechanical advance for sticking due to being rusty or dirty.1983 GS 1100E w/ 1230 kit, .340 lift Web Cams, Ape heavy duty valve springs, 83 1100 head with 1.5mm oversized SS intake valves, 1150 crank, Vance and Hines 1150 SuperHub, Star Racing high volume oil pump gears, 36mm carebs Dynojet stage 3 jet kit, Posplayr's SSPB, Progressive rear shocks and fork springs, Dyna 2000, Dynatek green coils and Vance & Hines 4-1 exhaust.

Best to do it with a timing light Otherwise line up the marks & turn the plate assembly and watch for the point you get spark at the plug. T mark 1&4 with the motor off- top dead center. F with the motor running at idle something around 10 deg before TDCLast edited by Guest; 12-02-2008, 05:49 AM.

Once the timing is set, I'm pretty sure it's done - you don't have to mess with it again unless the sensors move. Also - I haven't done the dynamic timing on mine yet, and it seems to work just fine. There's some idle roughness but I think it's the carb passages.
