Sea Foam as Winterizer?

I couldn't turn up much on this. I had used Stabil the last few winters, but they were out of it. I put about 1/2 a can of Seafoam into my 5 gallon tank(8oz- I think the cans are 16oz)

It says it's a gas preservative on the can. Of course it also says it whithens teeth, cures hemmorhoids and about 25 other things. I know people swear by it for cleaning things out occasionally, but I'm not sure about its over-winter rep.

Should I add some Stabil into the mix? I'm not likely to be able to empty the tank by riding or other means over the winter.

No need to. It works fine as a stabilizer. I've been using it the last 4 years. I also put a splash in every tank ( cap or two) during the season. It might be my imagination but the bike seems to run better. maybe wishful thinking

You can also use it in engine oil and I find it very good for getting sludge out of oil passages. I put it in the GS when I first got it ( it had been sitting 7 years) and run it about 1000Km before dumping and replacing the oil and filter. I couldn't believe the junk that flowed ( and slurped) out.

I think it great stuff for engines.

I put a little in my tank every other fillup or so, and if I stop riding for long enough this winter, Seafoam is my plan.

Don't know if it is true or not? Have heard that the marine version stabil is the one to use with todays ethanol blended gas

My 850 with Seafoam in the tank plugged up a pilot jet in just one month of inactivity – I used the recommended 1 oz/gallon of gas. My opinion is to either use more than I used or better yet, get some marine Stabil.

I heard recently that the marine stabil is much better because it prevents the 10% ethanol from separating from the gasoline when stored.

I have not used it but boat mechanics swear by it. So i'll try it i know you can buy it a Wal-Mart. In the sporting goods section.

Recently started using the seafoam when riding it, seems fine, don't know as a winter stabilizer though.

It works great. I use it in my snowblower when I put it up for the summer and in my lawn mower when I put it up for the winter. Every time I get them back out it takes one pull to restart. I use it in my cars to keep the crud to a minimum. I ran it into the intake of my Datsun when I first got it and it ran much better (after the smoke scren cleared). I will be using it in the bike next summer as well. I like Seafoam better than the Lucas Upper Cylinder Lube that is a similar product.

I've been only using it about a year but everything I run it thru seems to run better. Around here about the same price as Techtron but a much better product IMHO.I run the Connie enough in the winter that it doesn't sit in there toooo long

Sea Foam and Sta-bil in everything that sits the winter months out and have never had carb problems as a result of bad or gummed fuel...

I've used both and talked to many professional technicians (auto and bike), and I sell both in the store. In my experience and that of the techs, Seafoam is hands down the better product. I'm not saying that Sta-bil is not a good fuel stabilizer, it does that very well. It's just that it is a one-trick-pony. Seafoam stabilizes just as well, and does everyting else under the sun to boot. Just my two cents, take it or leave it.
