my winter project question
i need to replace the gaskets on my 1100 gk. besides the gasket kit is there anything else i need to replace while engine is apart. the bike runs great but leaks a little oil at the sealsTags: None

My suggestion is to check the compression before pulling down the engine (check it hot with the throttle held wide open). If the compression is low because of the rings, I'd address that problem while the top end is apart.Ed

Do the rings and the valve stem seals.1983 GS 1100E w/ 1230 kit, .340 lift Web Cams, Ape heavy duty valve springs, 83 1100 head with 1.5mm oversized SS intake valves, 1150 crank, Vance and Hines 1150 SuperHub, Star Racing high volume oil pump gears, 36mm carebs Dynojet stage 3 jet kit, Posplayr's SSPB, Progressive rear shocks and fork springs, Dyna 2000, Dynatek green coils and Vance & Hines 4-1 exhaust.
1985 GS1150ES stock with 85 Red E bodywork.

hey bud
that does not look to be to bad to me why don’t you just clean the motor and re torque the head bolts If the bike runs good why mess with it
find some thing else to tear apart this winter (cheep free advice )

thats primarily valve cover gasket leak, and many of these engines leaked there from new... so that's not anything more than a cosmetic concern
you may want to try a "real gasket" brand, a silicon type gasket some people have very good experience with
new camshaft-end rubber seals might be in order too. you can get them from www.z1enterprises.com
for the head head gasket - i would try loosening the nuts and re-torqueing them for a start. the correct sequence is stamped on the head next to the nutsGS850GT
