    New Handlebars

    • Daytona Handlebar from BikeMaster
    • Manufactured from high quality steel yet economically priced All bars are 7/8" OD (outside diameter)
    • Available in bright durable chrome or tough black paintMeasurements:
    • Width = 29.2"
    • Rise = 5.36"
    • Pullback = 3"
    • Center = 4.4"
    Rise = how high the bars are from top to bottom
    Width = end to end measurement
    Pullback = how far bars come back toward rider
    Center = length of center between first bends

    My questions are..... has anyone used these bars? is the center distance of 4.4 inches enough to bolt onto a '79 GS1000? I'm working out of town and my bike is 200 miles away. These bars are under $20 compared to ones from Dennis Kirk with 5 to 7 inches of center length for almost $80. I'm thinking for $20 If I don't like them I can always use them for a boomorang at the park. Just looking for your thoughts. Thanks Dave.

    I had them on my 78 GS1000. They fit fine. I didn't like them and ordered a set of the "Superbike" bend bars.

      Why didn't you like them??? My bike has the buck horn bars on it now and I hate them. I'd like something where my wrist is straight not bent at wierd angles. I looked at the superbike bars from bikemaster, same price but only difference I could see was the rise. The Daytona Bars seemed to look a little flatter if that make sense.

      Super bike bars
      Width = 29.2"
      Rise = 3.04"
      Pullback = 3"
      Center = 4"

      Daytona bars
      Width = 29.2"
      Rise = 5.36"
      Pullback = 3"
      Center = 4.4"

        Superbike bars are lower and have less pull back. I've used both and prefer the Daytona bars since I'm not a racer.

        Consider shorter cables to go with your lower bars. The clutch and throttle cables from a 1000S are a good way to go (that's what I used). You can reroute your current cables but the layout will be a compromise due to all the extra length and the lever action won't be as smooth as if you were using shorter cables.

          Dave, I have the Daytonas on the 1000L in the link below. I tried the euro bend first but with less rise, round type M/C, and wider L guages it put the banjo bolt into the tach. I think you could have the same problem with the superbike bars. I can post a close up picture tonight when I get home so you can check the clearance and see what you think. Tim

            Dave...I put these exact bars on my 77GS750B and am VERY happy with them. A few caveats though...
            1. Rerouting the cables is not trivial and I was never able to get the "push" cable routed properly so I just didn't connect it. I was able to route the "pull" cable well enough to get good quick response.
            2. The banjo bolt is very close to the clock housing, but it fits. I did need to loosen it a little and point it slightly more forward for a good fit and no pinching of the brake line.
            3. There is a lot less bar to work with. I have not tried it but I don't think my Plexifaring windshield is going to go back on.

            all that said, the improvement in riding position is fantastic. I'm much more comfortable. I was concerned that the difference in rise and pullback from the stock bars would have me leaning to much, but these are actually nearly perfect for me.

            I don't know for sure but it was plenty for the my 77GS750. I bet they are the same...but not 100% sure.

            I'm sure there are lots of things you can do with them

            Here are a few shots:

            1. Compare stock & Daytona bars

            2. Before

            3. After

              Just put daytonas on and yes, not much real estate. Everything just fit right to the bend. I rerouted everything just fine and get good response on all cables. Best of luck!

                Dave, these are the pics of the Bikemaster Daytona bars on my 81 1000L. I am not sure which guage cluster you have but this is what I ended up with for clearance on the M/C. I did replace the front brake line (new size 13") and got new 1000G cables which ended up being the same length as the original L cables. I ziptied the cables in slight radiuses along the frame tube under the tank and they work fine. I also replaced the OEM L mirrors with the 81 1000E mirrors. (Same mirror but much faster than the G mirrors). Per Nessisms suggestion I got the S cables for my 850 project this winter but have not changed those bars out yet. I also am going with the BM Daytona bars on it.
