I will get a pic of one in the morning, After looking at it I think it might be the same as yours. If you turn the float around the rod will set in the grove.

        Thanks Old Colt!

I took another look after your comment and I see it now, Thanks! My retaining clip just wasn't pushed in far enough to make that obvious.

Now the spray foam solution seems the best choice. I'll make it purty and post a pic when I'm done.

I expect if you tape over the ends and inject the foam within, this will help stabilize the float but also makes the foam close the end cells might provide a more reliable repair.

Test if the gasoline affects the foam by other means prior put inside your tank, will terrible if the foam gets dissolved by gas

So Old Colt, to be clear, you are saying you think it would be best to tape and then inject or inject and then sand to a finish? Also you mentioned the groove to stabilize the float. Upon closer inspection, mine has a similar situation. The retainer clip just wasn't pushed on far enough for me to notice the connection.

              AND:
Yes jacora, I agree. I think I will do the repair and then toss the whole works into some fuel and slosh it around for a few days to test.

I pulled mine yesterday and the float isn't worn down like the one pictured in this thread, it just apears that whatever held the float to the arm, pin, cap, something, is missing. I am going to look at the diagram in a minute and see if I see the part.

Yep, the clip is gone from mine, which likely means it's in the tank somewhere. I hope it's magnetic and maybe I can fish it out with a magnet.

As said before and avoiding any problem with foam or whatever, I just secured the float with a thin stainless steel wire, just put the float in its position and tie down the float front to rear to the rod. It works excellent.
