Can't get it to start back up...

I had to pull the carbs back off the bike today after fighting with it to get it started with no luck. air screw is out 2 turns from seated fuel screw is out 1 turn but its like im still not getting fuel. i noticed that when i blow into the vent tubes one is more restrictive than the other so what should i look more into for that.

Also where can i order new fuel screws for the bike (79 550)...i think im gonna need them

Sounds like the screws are set at the correct setting for initial start up.
You will probably need to remove carbs and see why one tube is more restrictive than the other. Pull tubes off in turn and blow through them to make sure there are no restrictions. If no restrictions in the tubes, then you will have to look at the float bowls.
Why do you think you need new fuel screws, are the present ones damaged.
If you think you have a fuel problem then tip a thimble full of fuel into the two outer spark plug holes (1 and 4) and try to start the bike. If it fires then you have a fuel problem. If not look somewhere else. Check your spark while the plugs are out (before messing about with fuel though).

yeah the tips are damaged but the bike would run and flood out before being removed for the first fix. i just ordered 750 rebuild kits since it seems the screws are the same and thats the only way i'll ever get them.hope everything goes good..i need this thing running..if i do get it running im allowed to start looking for another one..can anyone recommend a good digital dash?

Yep...needles need replacement. I guess when I wwent to seat it they were already broke but I seated them further in and they wouldn't backout I've popped 3 of the tips out but one I'm still working on getting out. So all new needles should be here wednesday.

This could have something to do with why it wont start. Get all those things fixed up and give it another whirl.
Did you replace the "O" rings on the intake boots?

Blimey, YEAH!!!!

No wonder it wont start. Probably have a air/fuel ratio of about 43:1, if you know what I mean.

The "O" rings on the intake stubs between the carbs and the head flatten out and allow air to be sucked into the motor causing an excessively lean mixture. A very common problem with GS 8V motors. These definitely need to be replaced if that has not been done. Also all the small "O" rings in the VM carbs themselves need to be replaced.

Also if the intake stubs (boots) are too stiff and hard they will also leak air and may need to be replaced. You can get them from Z1 Enterprizes.

One of the needles was completely stuck..I had to tap it through so I hope that seating lightly trick still helps. I've just been running into problems.I had a allen bolt break while torquing my clip-ons together (woodcraft 2pc) so I had to order a whole new set because I couldn't drill it out(another 150 dollars wasted) on top of the extra rebuild kits which came outt to almost 80 with shipping..I guess its just apart of the game

It sure is. If yoiu want to do it right, it will cost you $s. But worth it in the long run.

Well i'l have 461 dollars left to play with this month..which should be enough for me to buy a new headlight and finish working on my cafe seat with 06 zx6r tail light.then again my girlfriend just came back for school for winter break so I may be broke after all who knows
