trouble with carbs on a gs850L

this bike is a 1981 with about 22k on it for miles. i have worked really hard on getting my carbs to work right, but no sucesses. my carbs were working well when i got the bike and then gradually i felt them starting to fail. when i start the bike let it run for a bit and then shut off the bike i feel the pipes and find that one is not hot. the one that is not hot is (when looking at the bike from the front) is the second from the right. so that carb must not be working. we will call this the number two carb for clarity. this appears to be the main carb, becuase the fuel line runs into it. i have had the carbs of 5 times or more and cleaned it well every time ,soaked them a couple times overnight and still nothing. i have ran seafoam still nothing. i have put a new seat and needle in the number two carb. after i did that something funny happened. i started it for 1 min and then shut off cause the bike was not running right and found that that number two carb was the only one running. then i started it back up again and after ahile the other three started working, but then the number two stopped. it really seem like the gas is just flowing through the carb. there is gas mixing with the oil (i think just because of the huge gas flow) and also thre is white smoke, and also a little gas comming out of the exhaust. this bike has four carbs to one exhaust. i am really confused to what to do next. if anybody has some suggestions to what to do, it would be appreciated.
if you have anymore questions about the bike just ask.
and also if i was just to put new set of carbs on my bike, what types are compatible. (year, bike cc's etc.)

    thanks alot,

    blake

The petcock vacuum comes from the #2 carb and when the petcock diaphram goes bad it sucks fuel through it. Is the #2 spark plug fuel fouled?

Take off the vacuum line to the petcock and see if it has fuel in it. If so order another petcock and meanwhile run it on prime and plug the vauum hose.

I bet your carbs are fine. Replace the petcock.
Did you measure the float heigth when cleaning? Did you do this http://www.thegsresources.com/gs_carbrebuild.htm
