    Gs550t jetting questions

I am going to run cone filters instead of the stock airbox do I need to rejet if I am allready running a stage 1kit. I am also running a 4-1 pipe with no muffler not sure if that might be why it's running so rough. If anyone has any links to a site that can help me understand how to work on the carbs on this bike.

i have a 79 1000e and when i went to pods and open exhuast i had to go to 120 mains and the stage one kit i had in it were 110's so you may be running to lean, also went 2 1/4 turns out on the screws
    good luck

Are they CV carbs on the 550. I'd say a stage 3 kit definitely with pods and open exhaust. Assuming all the rest of the carbs are in good working order. No blocked jets etc.

No they are good carbs just had them rebuilt before I started changing everything. I am new to motorcycles I realize now that I jumped the gun on the carbs. I think I will try getting a stage 3kit for it. Where can I find one for this bike I have the Mukini carbs on it when I looked it up all I could find them for was the 550 Katana.

i know on the larger CV carbs that a st.1 and a st.3 kit are the same needles with a bigger main jet/diff air fuel setting ect..
dynojet main jets are not sized the same as mikuni main jets.
            a 120 D/N jet is not the same as a mik 120...
            be aware.
if you know the brand of jetkit then go to there website and or call them and ask...

You can use the Dynojet needle with Mikuni jets. Get the main dialed in (full throttle), then the needle (lower needle=lean raise needle=rich) and then the pilot circuit (idle and first roll on of throttle)
If you have the stock pilot jet I'd go up one. EX 40 stock use 42.5
Start rich on the main so you don't burn up the motor. Say 125

Dynojet main jet x .9375=mikuni main jet size
Mikuni main jet divided by .9375 = Dynojet main jet size

I feel like a total retard now I got the 82 KATANA GS550 kit from dyno tech. I don't know the names of everything but the screw things look a lot smaller than the ones in the bike I haven't had a chance to size them up yet. Not all is lost though I havent opened the bags yet so it is still returnable. Anyone that can provide me with some insight would be great. I also got the new pod filters.

The main jets have a smaller diameter but they serve the same purpose.

Ok last question may sound retarded aswell is there somewhere I can go that will give me step by step directions on installing this kit and tuning. I would take it somewhere but the shops in the area wont touch my bike. Say its too old. Or is there a GS'er in the Georgia area that could help me out.

With the pod filters this is how I'd jet.
The largest main jet in the kit.
Drill the slides with the supplied drill bit. There is two drill bits. Use the smaller one on the slides. Drill the hole next to where the needle jet comes out of the center of the slide.
Do you know how to remove the needle jet? If yes but the clip one notch lower on the needle than Dynojet recommend.
Take the idle mixture screws out 2.5 turns each. Make sure you count full revolutions and not half.
If the there is a main air jet insert tap it into the right hole on the filter side of the carb.
Have you done this to the carbs yet> http://www.thegsresources.com/gs_carbrebuild.htm
