    Wheel questions

Ok I have a 77 750 gs. It has a 18" rear wheel that is skinny and I would like to go wider. I have bought a 130 size tire and it looks real narrow on this wheel I have. Is there another wheel that is an 18 I can use that is wider? When I ordered the tire it said that it should be about 5.5" wide and that is what I am looking for. It now is only 3.75 wide. Any Help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Your tire will cause lots of problems if you don't make modifications, starting with a proper size wheel.

At 5.5 inches, is it a radial tire?

BIG T I have lowered this bike extended by 6" and made it a ridged. What problems do you think I would have?

Do you still plan to ride it on the street or is it a strip-only bike?

          - Lowering the bike will reduce ground clearance that is necessary for cornering.

          - Extending it 6" will increase the wheelbase, which slows down steering response and also requires greater lean angles for any given turn.

          - Making it rigid means that you now have air suspension. BUT, only the air that is trapped in your tires.

Any one of these can help with a drag bike, all three of them together will definitely help. However, for a street bike, practicality has been greatly reduced. You will now have a bike that will be pretty much limited to hanging out with the Harley crowd that only puts on 20 miles or so at a time, as they go from bar to bar.

Personally, I can't imagine doing any of these things to any one of my bikes, but then, my style of riding is obviously not for everyone, either.
