Just to finish this thread off.

I pulled the tensioner and luckily the gasket stayed in one piece and with the motor. After feeling the action of the tension I decided to just set the plunger fully in by turning the knob and setting the lock screw. I then re-installed the tensioner and released the lock screw about a 1/2 turn, and heard the plunger pop in... Then I tightened the lock nut, leaving the screw a 1/2 turn loose. No oil leaks and I don't hear the cam chain slapping around, so I feel all is good.

    Thanks for all the help!

The APE manual tensioner for the 1100 will also work for the GS1000. Dar
