where is a good place to get intake boots

I am having trouble finding intake boots for a gs650L. They are in bad shape. I was wondering if there was any thing you have to do if you put pods on? I pulled carbs loose and checked one boot, gas was running out of one carb and was pooling in the box that all the carbs attach to. The guy that owned it before me put some kind of siliacon on everything. Pods seem easier but I am not sure of rejeting? I read go 2 sizes up. Anything else to worry about? What is causing the pooling? I just ran it up and down the alley a couple of times. I have carb o-ring kit from Mr. barr. I figure I would soak the carbs in some thing and try to clean them up. I have read the write up for bs carbs I hope I'm not in over my head. Looks a little more complicated than I thought. I have until spring.

Carb fixing isn't too tough, but the most important thing to remember is this: time and space. You need to take your time (pick a Saturday) and you need a good space (workbench with nothing around). Failure will result if you don't have these 2 items.

Your carbs sound like they are overfilling with gas. This is good, since it means at least gas is getting there. You need to remove the carb bank as a whole, put it upside down on the workbench (after letting the gas run into a bucket). Remove the 4 screws holding the bottom bowl on each carb and gently tap them with something until you can pull the bowls off. The floats inside are what are sticking in the up position, letting the carb overfill - you should be able to free them up using an old toothbrush and a mild solvent (Varsol?). Gently brush away at everything you can and the crud and varnish in there should disappear. Some disassembly should be done to clean jets and passageways, but a manual or online tutorial should be consulted first so you know what you are looking at. Its really not hard at all, most carbs are the same inside, you basically just need to clean them.

Follow the carb rebuild series tutorial on the GSR homepage and you will be miles ahead. Fuel pooling like you describe indicates a stuck float allowing the carb to overflow.

Pod filters will require rejetting, not sure it's as easy as just going up a couple of sizes on the main jet. Putting the stock airbox is the easy solution.

Are you going with a aftermarket exhaust ? you probably have a float that is sticking or not seating properly. you should see if you could buy a jet kit
it is a lot less guess work. don’t get overwhelmed not as hard as it looks

Are you needing parts #2,#3 ? The boots that go into the airbox ? I believe yours are different sizes. You'll need two of the inner boots and two of the outer boots. You may also want #4 (x4) and may as well get new clamps while you're getting stuff.

Perhaps when the po was installing the silicone all over everything, really all he did was have the wrong boots in the wrong holes of the airbox.

Okay, how about #20 thru #26. Again there are righthand(rh) and lefthand(lh) boots.

                What year GS650L is this?

If you do go with pods, get the Dynojet jet kit and genuine K&N pods. You'll get the least frustration and best performance with your jetting this way.

You don't have to purchase from Flatout....it's just the first one I went to when trying to help out.

You can get'em from any online vendor. I'd shop around some, you may save a buck or two. Watch for shipping costs as well.

There's a bunch of links here.

I don't think I will do pods right now that seems a bit pricey. The ones I looked at were about 50. shipped and the site suggested to go up about 2 jet sizes. I figgered there had to be more. Glad I ask. Maybe next year or bike. I just thought it looked easier to clean filters.
