    o-rings

    need carb o-rings for my 1978 gs400. Contacted Robertbarr already and he had nothing for me. Oh well, tried to stay in the family but S.O.L. I've been looking and can't find them on any fische. I see the one in the float bowl and I know they are on the mix screws. One crumbled in my hand! Dooh! So obviously I need at least those and any others that I don't know exist at this point. Will also need the intake pipe ring as well but I managed to find that already. Would prefer to order all parts from one place if possible. HELP!

      I made my own O-ring kit from O-rings available through McMaster-Carr. They have a warehouse just up the 605 freeway from Long Beach so you can do will call and pick them up. I can help you pick the sizes if you don't know how. That's what I would do anyway. As an aside, I've got a bunch of O-rings of various sizes in my garage so we may be able to match something up. Worth a try if you don't mind bringing your carbs by.

        I knew someone had an answer! Nessism thanks for the help. When would you have time to go over this with me? Or at least splain how to get what I need. Thanks again!

          I pulled this 'fiche off Alpha Sports. You'll need #22 (the oring around the needle jet), and possibly #17 (the oring for the drain plug). The oring for the pilot air screw (#13) is not shown on the 'fiche, however, I believe that it is the same size as the one for the needle jet (#22) at least it was on my '81 GS 450 (and it's cheap enough to give it a shot). Of course you'll need two of each to do both carbs. If oring #22 doesn't fit the pilot air screw, then go to a hardware store or McMaster-Carr etc. and try to match something up with the air pilot screw. Good luck.

            I have a big blue box of metric o-rings from Harbor Freight that I've dipped into from time to time. Probably not the highest quality in the world, but they've worked fine so far in a couple of carbs.

            You might want to invest $15 in a digital caliper and make some measurements so you know which o-ring sizes to look for.

                That diagram looks identical to the 450's that I do have kits for.

                There's an O-ring on part #21 which has to be exactly the right item; it's an interference fit and holds the emulsion tube (or insert your favorite term here) in place. You won't hit-or-miss this particular item.

                If it were me, I'd risk trying one of my kits, but it's a gamble. I can't guarantee anything.

                Flatout shows a 40mm intake O-ring for this engine, which I also have, and a combo with the whole ball of wax:

                  ok now to drag up old bussiness. Nessism sorry for not getting with you but my schedule is hectic as I'm sure yours is. So I figured best not to bothher you at home. If you could break it down as to how to measure o rings it would be appreciated. Also any one know about the rings around the shaft the butterflies are screwed into? I polished my carbs and needed to pull em all apart in order to get a decent finish. Would hate to use these over since I've gone to this much trouble. Again sorry for leavin you hangin nessism.

                    I bought Mr. Barrs o-ring kit for an 85 450 and used half of it.
                    1983 GS 1100E w/ 1230 kit, .340 lift Web Cams, Ape heavy duty valve springs, 83 1100 head with 1.5mm oversized SS intake valves, 1150 crank, Vance and Hines 1150 SuperHub, Star Racing high volume oil pump gears, 36mm carebs Dynojet stage 3 jet kit, Posplayr's SSPB, Progressive rear shocks and fork springs, Dyna 2000, Dynatek green coils and Vance & Hines 4-1 exhaust.
                    1985 GS1150ES stock with 85 Red E bodywork.
