    82 gs1100 starting issue

Hi to all and thanks for all the previous help.
When I start my bike it will almost always fire up instantly and all is fine. The problem is, if for some reason it doesn't fire up on the first try, (even if it sounds like it almost did), it will just turn and turn and not even sound as if it's trying to fire. Kind of like it's flooded. I then have to let it sit a fairly long while or hit it with starter fluid to get it going. Any ideas? Could it flood in just a second of trying to start?
    Thanks. Eddie V

Pull an arc plug and see if it is wet with fuel.

If it is dry you can blow into your vent tubes.

Lack of fuel on start up is usually a good indication of a much needed valve adj and if you haven't replaced carb o-rings with a robert barr kit, it's a good time to do so.

Ensure carb manifold boot o-rings are not hard and cracked as well.

After all that fun stuff be sure the carbs are properly synch'd and adj, floats and a/f ratio wise.

I've also performed the coil relay mod.

Bass Cliff's website has most of this good information in a how-to format.

I tried to do a little bit here and there on my bike and you know what, it was well worth doing it all at once because now, I no longer have the " You know, once in a while she just doesn't catch."

If you have a weak spark and it does not fire right away the fuel still enters the compustion chamber and floods the engine. A good battery and the coil mod will fix this. That is if that is where the trouble lies.

        Thanks guys,
I've done a good amount of work to bike already. The top end has been redone, valves etc. I've replaced the o-rings at the manifold. I haven't rebuilt the carbs though. The bike does run very well so I feel like I don't want to ask for trouble but maybe it is due.
What is the coil relay mod that you mentioned?
        Thanks again.
