'82 GS1100E Tube or tubeless?

 '82 GS1100E Tube or tubeless?I'll start by saying I have read a million posts on this but they were all several years old. So in that time has the consensus become that I should or should not run my stock mag wheels with tubes or without? They had tubes in them but I didn't really think much about it. I then went on to drill out the valve stem hole for .453" valve stems. Now I come to read it is a tube type rim. So if I do decide to use a tube, will it matter that I drilled out the valve stem hole? I want to finish mounting these tomorrow so i need an answer ASAP. THANKS!Tags: None

 Some people run tubes and others convert. There is no clear answer.
 
 Tube type rims do not have the extra inner lip that keeps the tire on the bead in case of pressure loss. Not sure this is strictly necessary or not so again, there is no clear answer.Ed

 Do you think that it matters that I already drilled the rear wheel for the larger valve stems? Are tubes for tubeless tires different and if so, how?

 Most tubes come with metal washers to protect the tube from damage from the rim hole but not sure how the fit will be with a hole that large. Only thing I can suggest is to check carefully and maybe come up with a bushing to protect the tube further if you don't think it's ok with the larger hole.Ed

 An '82 should be all set up with tubeless wheels, no?

 I believe the wheels on an '82 1100E's were the same as on the '82 Katana's. So, they would need tubes. I don't know if the bigger valve stem hole makes a difference though.
 Chances are you'll need to do what Nessism suggests. I personally wouldn't take the chance of running tubeless on those wheels.The Three Horsemen
