    welded Dilemma

I went to the fabricator - machine shop today and he welded the basket. Now I have to decided
Whether or not to use it. do I take the chance of it coming apart and taking out the case ?
I will have to sleep on that one

      Where was the crack?

How good is the welder? (the man, not the machine)

      How does the weld look?

Is the piece in there straight?

      Got pics?

Normally when Falicon or APE weld the stock clutch basket they also balance the basket assembly by drilling holes on one side. The weld if done correctly is certainly stronger . . .my concern would be were did the crack start/finish in relationship to the drilled holes?

the back looks good to me.

The side weld looks good too.

I have some reservations about it in motion/under load.

maybe I let my imagination get the best of me. it will probably be just fine.

it could explode and take your leg off, nothing major.

I am courious why you didn't switch to a 1100 type basket? they are much stronger.

                      PS: nice looking welds

1100 basket is not a bolt in.
it can be narrowed .500 and then you have to mix and match both types of clutch parts.
                        totally do-able.
the 1100 basket would still need a HD kit installed for drag racing.

I'm surprised nobody has said this. What about the basket being out of balance? I would worry about that more than the strength of the weld. I think the weld will be fine. When I got it all together I would watch out for severe vibration.

i have installed alot of HD backing plate kits in street and/or race baskets without having them balanced.
never a problem with vibration, none.
if a person has a choice...balanced or non balanced.
                            the choice is easy.
                            go with balanced.
                            food for thought..
the factory didn't balance these baskets when the engine was built.
                            again,
if a person has a choice then a balanced part/parts is the only way to go.

explode and take your leg off

I have seen it happen all the time all of those guys at the track with only one leg and a kick stand, CLUTCH blew up took his leg clear off . seriously
now probably I will take my cases out if there is a problem right ? I flipped a coin five times and I am going to run it I will keep yaw posted
