I have a pretty dumb question.

The 1000 engine I bought for my 7/10 project has a Dyna ignition on it, but shouldn't there be some sort of controller/brain box? All I have is the harness coming out of the pickup with the wires snipped off. There are lots of those snipped off harnesses on here and they don't all have corresponding wires on the 750 (still together) so this will not likely be the last of my dumb questions.
    Thanks for any help,
    -Ray

      Is it Dana S?

Dana S has 4 wires. The brain is in the pickup under the timing cover. Actually I doubt there is anything but a FET driven my teh magnetic pickup.

Basically there needs to be power and ground hoing to the Dana and the other two leads go to the coils.

If you are installing this, best is to do a Dana S install with a coil relay mod. Requires opening your harness at the point where the hot side coil wires pop out and running an additional wire from same point to a battery box mounted relay (actually where the current ignition box is).

After discussing with Chef, I'll outline a simple way to do this.

Dyna has made a number of different units over the years. As Pos said, the Dyna S is self contained. The older Dyna stuff had a box like Jed's photo shows and some of the newer stuff has a programable box.

To answer your question properly we need to know what model of ignition you have.

Aw, how hard can it be? It's just a bunch of wires.

Not the wiring, that was the easy part. The discussion is what did it.

Thanks so much. I love the way everybody jumps in to try and help whenever there is a need on this forum. I'll get either a picture or a model number posted up as soon as I can. Hard to move the motor around for photos with this broken foot, but I'm sure I can manage something. Again thanks in advance.

So it says dyna S right on the unit. Great news for me, so can anyone tell me which wire goes where?

Just go to dynatec's web site and they have downloadable wiring diagrams with detailed instructions plus troubleshooting hints

The picture in Jed's post is of a Dyna III booster box. It comes with a Dyna S as part of a kit, but the box is just an amplifier and is just an upgrade to the standard S

Hook the red wire from the Dyna to a power source. The other two go to the coils. The white one to the white/? wire and the black to the black/? wire.
