I am new and i have somne navigational issues so I have to ask this question again. I have an 1983 GS1100g with pods and vance and hines 4 into 1 with accell coils. Bike came this way. Can I put a stack air box back on with out rejetting? Can I leave the 4 into 1 exhaust on if I put a stock air box back on?Tags: None

You need to rejet for the pipe and/or pods. With the pipe only and the stock airbox installed, install a Dynojet stage 1 jet kit for the bike. What about the breather?
Thanks. Carbs were rejetted when PO put pods on I guess I leave the pods and pipe on. Thank beig the case what is the proper way to handle the breather?

Put a little breather filter on it. It's basically so you don't build pressure in the crankcase. There's a few different ones available, so look around.

I bought a K&N crankcase breather filter.
Is the bike running poor to warrant a rejet?1983 GS 1100E w/ 1230 kit, .340 lift Web Cams, Ape heavy duty valve springs, 83 1100 head with 1.5mm oversized SS intake valves, 1150 crank, Vance and Hines 1150 SuperHub, Star Racing high volume oil pump gears, 36mm carebs Dynojet stage 3 jet kit, Posplayr's SSPB, Progressive rear shocks and fork springs, Dyna 2000, Dynatek green coils and Vance & Hines 4-1 exhaust.
1985 GS1150ES stock with 85 Red E bodywork.

I favor an Emgo filter for my bikes. They're small, attractive and about $5 over the counter at your local Cycle Gear or what have you. You can also use an inline fuel filter, or a muffler off an air control solenoid. The latter is made from sintered brass and look very much like the element from an inline fuel filter. Grainger is a good source. These have the advantage of being the size of your thumb and I think they look really cool but you can zip-tie it to the frame backbone if you don't want to look at it.

Bike runs well. Is way faster than the old yamaha 750 I had. I was just thinking about removing the pods and putting a air box on because I don't like the smoke that come from the breather. I am not really sure if the breather is supposed to smoke like that.

Probably blowby past the rings, has the bike sat unused a long time?
Been run a few hundred thousand miles?
Been seriously abused?

As long as the engine compression is OK, I wouldn't worry about some misting (just catch it in something).Ed

Bike doesn't seem to be abused. Has 25 or 26,000 miles. Could it be stuck rings? What will it take to free them?

Riding it a lot might free them up. This would be my first choice.
Putting some Marvel Mystery Oil in the cylinders for a week or so may help.
