82' 850G parts swap with 80' 1000G

Does anyone know what parts would swap between a 82 GS850G and an 80 GS1000G?

What I'm wanting to know specifically:
Could I just swap seats
Could I just swap the wheels from one bike to the next.
Is the speedo on the GS1000G an 85mph or 100 or so

I am playing with the idea of getting a 1000G and just wondering if any of these could possibly go from one to the other.

Any opinions of the 1000G would be appreciated as well.

1. No, you can not just swap seats. They're totally incompatible, and so are the side covers and the tanks.
2. Yes, you can just swap the wheels. The front ones swap with no modification, even though they're different parts. The rear will swap, but you may have to shim it different. It will fit, I assure you, because I've done it.

The speedo on the 1000G is not 85.

The 1000G is a terrific bike. Back in 1980 it got superb reviews from testers in motorcycle mags.

One more item. Take the spline set off the 1982 rear wheel, and replace it with the stock spline set from the 1000G. The 82 and 83 GS850G and 1100G came with a very soft set of splines (the one that fits into the rear wheel hub). There's a thread on splines on this forum. Refer to it.

1980 marks the first year of the 85 mph speedometers. 1982 was the last year but some 1983 model bikes stayed with 85 mph speedos anyway.

Regarding the other parts, I don’t think the seat will interchange unless you are talking about the L model, but the wheels should swap although the 82 wheels are nicer than the earlier wheels in my opinion because they are tubeless.

My 850 is really nice and I have no idea why I'm interested in 12 horsepower. Its just the thought of another project I guess.
