Well I sold it to a guy, when he got it he said, "hey this is a 750 tank not an 1100 tank...

He may want to sell it now but its in Malyasia.

Dude, there were differences in other countries. This guy in Malaysia is probably correct, from his perspective. Here's a link that might help you out.

Probably the largest Suzuki motorcycle fan site in the world. Online since 2001. Thousands of pages with technical information, pictures, magazine adverts and brochure scans of most Suzuki motorbikes ever sold in different parts of the world. Thousands of bike pictures and stories posted by the readers. ALL Suzuki motorcycle models around the world have their place here!

Didn't the 1100 have more fuel capacity?

Yes, the '81GS750E and '81GS1100E body work are ALL interchangeable. My brother runs the 'red' '81 GS750E bodywork on his '81GS1100E cause he likes the color and enjoys the '750' badges on the side covers...but he is kinda 'sick' (a long story)..LOL,LOL.

In Asia, Europe, and Australia, your question would have been about GSX1100 and GSX750 tanks. Those are interchangeable in that they will fit on the other bike, but they are not identical in that the 1100 tank is larger and has a higher profile.
