Fuel gauge sending Unit repair

On my '79 i was finishing up cleaning out the inside of my tank with Milkstone remover, which worked very well, and i was trying to drain the rest of the water out when the float arm plastic bobber/float came off the metal arm. I hope you understand what i am trying to describe.

My question, what is the best way to secure the float back onto the arm?

Not sure if the factory used some type of adhesive??? There is no screws or zip ties attached to the arm or float.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!! thats exactly what i'm talking about. I'll checkout the stainless steel wire and the retaining washer. I believe i have the original sending unit and the arm is pretty rusted so the milkstone remover (phosphoric acid ) probably eat up what was left of the retaining washer and the end of the arm.

I'll see how things work out, worst case is i get a new/used sending unit.
