GS1000 oil drain plag metric size?

Did a search and didn't find anything conclusive on this question....

What is the metric size of the threaded portion of the oil drain plug on a GS1000? Is it 14mm x 1.25 thead pitch or 14 mm x 1.5 thread pitch?

    Thanks!

Fark, just realized there's a typo in the thread title, sorry 'bout that...

They are 14x1.25. To test this answer, screw in a spark plug! Ray.

        Yup!

And since it matches a common spark plug thread size, it's very easy to find thread repair inserts. I prefer a solid insert, not a Helicoil.

Thanks for the help RapidRay and bwringer. Fortunately the hole isn't stripped. I just ordered one of these digital oil temp gauges which has a sensor that replaces the stock oil drain plug so knowing the metric size and pitch of the plug is very helpful.

Ooh, that's neat! You're really running out of things to do to that bike, huh?

Be sure to post your findings here -- how hot does the oil get under various conditions, etc. Graphs, charts, diagrams... we want it all.

80gs1000, I have an extra plug for an 850 g 1980. If it fits and you want to, you can have it. You will need the washer though

Thanks for the offer but I just needed to know the plug size.
