Gas tank hole???

Any ideas?

Get a new one on Ebay :P Or, take it to a radiator shop. they can patch it, and clean the inside out for you for relatively cheap. Looks like someone had a problem with that before you got a hold of it judging from the body filler under the paint there...

That tank looks like junk to me. If the metal is thin from rust in one place, there are other places waiting to break through just around the corner.

Nice hole . Depends on what you want to do with the bike. If you're just looking to flip it, the POR-15 sealer kit comes with cloth that can patch that hole. If that bike is a keeper, get a new tank.

strip the rest of the paint off with a wire brush on a angle grinder this will open up any other holes (which is good). If there are dents take it to a body shop first they will pull the dents with welded rods. Then take it to a radiator shop, they will patch all the holes and seal it for you. Should be fine after that. Then just get it painted.

That tank has serious problems my friend. Pin holes are one thing, but that thing has seen better days. Probably better off finding another one on flea bay. They may be few and far between but they are there. Just be patient.

Yikes!..... If the rest of the inside looks rusty, like you can't see any more shiny bare steel, then it's junk. If it's only that one spot as if water had accumulated right there, then it can be repaired at a radiator shop as mentioned before.

Some 22ga sheet metal and a little brazing action and that tank is hold fuel once again. You will want to clean it ( I use a hand full of drywall screws and some MEK. Shake like hell and repeat til no little flakes of tank sealer comes out. Or til the MEK is clear of rust color) Braze the preformed piece in, let cool and tank seal. If you dont know how to braze any radiator shop can do this for you.

I bought a 1980 GS 1000E that had a 1981 GS1100E tank on it. Put that tank on that 1000, it fits fine, but any GS expert would recognize the incorrect tank. It's been painted, looks nice. It's in Texas, for sale, if anyone wants a very fast and decent looking GS1000.
Still sitting on the second GS1000, trying to find a good tank for it.
It's ready to ride except for the lack of a tank. Got one?

Cant tell from the pics but it appears that hole may have been a low spot where water collected. The rest of the tank may be fine. Ive got some poly sulfide (fuel tank sealer), commonly known in the industry as pro-seal, that I would smear over that hole. Let it set up a couple days and it will hold fuel.

There are a lot of holes of various sizes, maybe thirty or so.
The whole thing is really quite rotten.
That one could be patched and used, but I'd rather just hold out for a nice solid tank.
It's not like I can't ride while I wait, if it was my only bike that would be a different matter.
