    Identifying These clutch plates

    Are these stock clutch plates or some other brand?



    I have stock springs on the way. It was slipping in 5th gear around 6500rpm's.

    Thanks for the help!

      I don't know much about the history of this bike and i've seen some '80 options/parts on it that should not have been available in '79.

      This is my first time looking at clutch plates so i thought i would get some expert advise.

        If it's slipping it probably needs clutch springs, they've been compressed for thirty years, may have lost a little Oomph.
        New ones are cheap, stock Suzuki springs are the ones to use.

          i've got 6 stock springs on order and should be here on friday. $3.20/spring from a suzuki dealer. The price should about right?

            There should be a number stamped on one of the metal tangs to tell you where they came from? Mine had a #2 stamped on the side with the 3 semi circle cutouts on the outer edge. They were original Suzuki.

            My new aftermarket ones had two bigger numbers stamped on two consecutive tangs. They work fine. They looked identical otherwise. I think they are all made of cork impregnated with aluminum so it probably doesn't matter who makes them?

            Make sure you torque all 6 spring/bolts properly and coat all disks with oil before installing. Probably less than 10ft/lbs. Important to get that right!!

              very very VERY! the clutch basket is made of metal slightly stronger than old cheddar cheese and is very easy to strip the bolts.

                so you tighten the clutch springs all the way down and basically lightly seat them?

                    i'll check for the stamped numbers and i will double check the torques before installing the springs. Should have the springs tomorrow by noon time. Thanks for the tips.

                      the torque specs for them is slightly more than that.
                      many of the cover bolt torque specs are realy low but it works, the problem is it doesn't feel right when you are used to giving the wrench a good tug, and if you do that on one of these, especialy the cam cover and clutch pressure plate bolts, you will strip them.

                        i'm also using SS allen head screws. any ideas if there is an adapter for this that fits the torque wrench?

                          IMO, this aint the space shuttle. If you have a torque wrench use it. Im not sure of the specs and weather or not its a dry or a lubed torque.
                          If you use a 1/4 drive ratchet and sockets you should get a good feel for how tight the bolts should be. Your SS cover bolts should snug down fine with a regular allan wrench. Yes, there are allan head sockets for your torque wrench.

                            after submitting my question about an allen head socket for my torque wrench i thought that was a stupid question. One of many dumb questions i have asked.
