    Indicator/light switch

Hi, I have an 82 GS1100G without owners handbook.
Can any one tell me what auto turn means on the switch and what is supposed to happen when I press the light switch to the bottom.
I am not sure if it has self cancelling indicators.

If its like mine they self cancel. The left / Right should feel kinda spring loaded as well as the up/dn, high/low headlight. The system uses a speed sensor to cancel the signals. You should be able to get an owners manual off Cliffs web site.

Look at a manual on Cliffs site. Its got pictures of the switch and operation procedures.

I would bet if your switch is labeled Auto Turn they do self cancel.

If it says "AUTO", it should be self-cancelling. To use the self-cancelling feature, you need to know that there are really FIVE positions for the turn signal switch. #1 is farthest left, it is spring-loaded and will return the button to #2. #3 is in the middle, then #4 and #5. #5 is also spring-loaded and will return the switch to #4. To initiate a left turn, move the switch to #1, let it return to #2. After you have traveled faster than 10 mph for more than 10 seconds, the switch won't move, but the signals should turn off. If you need to turn them off sooner, just move the switch to #3 for immediate cancellation. On the other hand, if you need them on longer, just move the switch back to #1 to start another cycle.

To answer your second question, moving the switch up and down controls your high/low headlight beam. That can be done with turn signals on, too, so you don't need to worry about moving the signal switch to any certain position before selecting your headlight beam.
