Oil Drain Plug
In the process of draining the oil out of my newly aquired GS850G, I have discovered that the P.O. had screwed up the threads and they came out with the plug. Is there a quick fix to this problem like there is for cars or am I going to have to drill and trap, helicoil, or whatever---Help!!Tags: None

Auto parts stores sell oversized, self tapping drain plugs. Take your old plug to a Napa store or similar and ask for a repair plug.Ed
To measure is to know.

Try the bolt in the hole and see if there is any thread to catch using you fingers. If not then the best advice would be to drop the sump plate and get the hole 'time certed' or helicoiled for the correct sized drain plug.

Fixed mine
I dropped the pan. Got the next size up metric tap, found the same size magnetic plug on line and fixed it. Good as new.

One of my 850's lived with the sump plug two mix epoxied in place for about 3 years until I sold it, probably still like that to this day, Pratley Steel, zip ties and duct tape holds the world together.
Bit of a bitch to drain the oil though, had to take it out the filter housing.
