gear box noise
I have recently got a GS1100GK and a noise coming from the gearbox its in every gear sounds like a winding/grinding gets louder as you go faster does not change when i change gear have put the bike in neutral and the noise is still there but is loudest when accelerating or throttling on and off. put the bike on the stand and listened and noise seams to be coming from gearbox. the gears are working well not a problem very smooth. can any one help diagnose this problem before i open it up and will parts be difficult to get as in AustraliaTags: None

My guess is a bad brg in the secondary gear set. I would pull them out & check before pulling the engine for trans work

Gear noise
My father had a 1982 GS1100GL with the same problem. His was the beveled output gears that drive the driveshaft. The support bearing on the output shaft was bad. We caught it in time and only had to replace the bearing. It would be a good idea to check the final drive for excessive freeplay also.
