Can't remember what my GS1k has, but I know my 78 XS650 and the 79 XS400 have push to cancel. I think the 650 got the self cancel units in 80 when they got all ugly. I've gotten in the habit of pushing to cancel, as well as checking the dash flashers after every turn and every once in a while going down the road. Always bugs me when people drive down the road with their signals on.
I was actually considering new switch pods for the GS from Mike's XS, but $55 each is a little steep for me right now. They're GREAT quality and available in black or chrome. My 650's got them and I love em!

Mind you the switches on the Amerian bikes did not have this feature.

I hope this isn't a derail, but I didn't think it's worth starting a new thread for.
I recently discovered me '78 GS400 has a socket for another bulb below the main one. What's it for? The wires behind the socket are disconnected from anything.

It looks to me like a pilot light (parking light). But I am not aware of any bikes with a light switch that has the parking light position on the handlebar switch.

My bike is from Canada and I have a parking position in the ignition, I never had the factory head light though. This is my first bike so I never thought anything of it.

My XS400 has self cancellers. I like it but find I have to travel a rather laong way before they shut off, I plan to change that so it turns off a little quicker.
For the technical, it works by reading a mercury switch in the speedo and counting revolutiosn. When you ask for a turn, the circuit starts counting and charges up a capacitor with every pulse it reads from the speedo. At a predetermined point the capacitor is full and it electronically shuts off the signal.
I plan to slightly reduce the capacitor so that it turns off faster. Battery voltage affects it too, a simple regulator added to maintain 12 rather than 13-15 would solve that problem.1981 GS650G , all the bike you need
