1980 GS 750E Oil sump gasket

I have my oil pan / sump off and wanted to know if I have to use gasket goop sealer with the gasket when reinstalling, or is the dry gasket OK? I had a leak before taking the oil pan off so Im hoping to fix it. thanks Scott

Either way is fine, but I'm pretty sure Suzuki didn't use anything on the gaskets originally. If you use sealer, only a very slight coating so it doesn't ooze out.

You can use some sealer if you want, DON'T use silicon type. I like to use the brush on permatex

It's interesting how different boards have different recommendations. At the GSR, silicone sealer is frowned upon but on ex-500.com, they tell you to skip the gaskets entirely and just use silicone.

Regarding silicone, quite a few OE auto makers use silicone instead of gaskets on things like oil pans and engine covers. I did the same several times when rebuilding engines such as an RX-7 engine. Worked great and never leaked.

Most people use too much silicon, it can float around inside the engine and clog the oil passages

I'm wondering where you got your rear seat rack on your GS850? is it original? From looking so far it appears these OEM fit racks are hard to come by, unless a person makes one.
