A question about wider wire rims

I switching from cast to wire wheels front and back. I like my stance as it is now, 19 front/16 rear. The problem Ive run into is, no one makes a 16 x 2.75 wire rim. The closest I can find is a 16 x 3.5/ This rim will accept a 140/80 which will run 5.511" wide. The stock 130/90 runs 5.118" wide. DO ya think this will fit the stock swingarm without clearance issues? I just cant see spending $400 to $500 on having a rim cut and punched.

    Thanks

Get the wider rim, you can fit either a 130 or 140 to a 3.5 rim. Regarding whether or not a 5.5 tire will fit between your swingarm, there is no way to know since you didn't mention what kind of bike you have.

Yep, once again we drop hints to put bike and approximate location in the profile and/or sig line.

You might also consider looking at your bike and see how much room there is around your existing tire, it is tough for us to see from here.

The way I read it he is looking for a 16x2.75 have you thought about a 17 maybe don't know what is available

I have roughly 7/8" to spare. And I believe the 17" will be the way I have to go. I was just curious if anyone here had run into this and what they did. Im hoping the 140/80 will give me enough room. On older Brit, there is a small issue with chain lash. Even a little side to side. Anyone ever run into that with a GS? Ive never owned one before this, so I havent had it on the road to know.

Are you talking about clearance to the swingarm or chain? Both need to be considered.

If you've got 7/8" to the swing arm, you should be good with a wider rim. Just put the smaller tire on, you can always put a bigger one on later.

Yeah Ive been considering clearance on both. Like I mentioned, older Brit bikes Ive had in the past could devolve chain lash side to side. So I was worried if that may be an issue with the GS. Thanks for the input.

You'll probably need an offset sprocket to get the chain lined up if you go with the 4.5" or wider. That would help give you a little more clearance where the chain is concerned. 3/8" offset should be about right in your case.
