    Questions

    Regarding my last post,

    here is a picture

also are these the right gaskets, they look right but my model is not listed on the page, hoping so cause it is much cheaper than bikebandit...

and how do you clean this part as I imagine the rubber is pretty sensitive?

not sure i had a bit of the same thing could just be a chemical reaction to the brass??

i didnt clean my slides so im not sure after i drilled the i ducked em in a water bucket to get all the filings off and yeah it ws the same bucket i dipped the carbs to rinse them off should be fine as it was about 3 gallons of water to trace amounts of dip.

Good info, when removing the o ring on my #2 carb's needle valve seat I punctured it in the middle trying to get it off, I had just replaced all my o rings this summer and would it be okay since it is in the middle or can i just go to the hw store and get a replacement, it is just one.

one more thing the starter/choke assembly from my #2 carb has some rubber parts on it and I am not sure how/if you take it apart to dip or just spray? any ideas?

              Thanks

i oiled my choke plunger and it removed the dried on stuff whether gas touches the whole unit or no im not sure but i oiled it anyways with gun oil since it had a needle tip i could get in all the small places and oil

also oil your bowl gaskets they will swell and seal better and a little oil in the fuel wont hurt.

i looked at it as upper cylinder lube

as far as the orings go i would ask Mr Barr since he is the only one who has a complete kit for us but im sure you could use a HW store replacement as long as it is rated for petroleum use or chemical use it should be fine

What kind of oil did you use? so you don't need to take it apart?

im not sure if you can take the plunger apart, i know you can take the slide apart but i just removed the clip and added the DJ needle and drilled the lift hole out.

i used Hoppes gun oil if its good enough for firearms is good enough for carb assembly some will probly disagree but if something happens ill admit to it.

but most say spray your gasket with wd40 i preferred to use a less messy method

i didnt use this exact one but it has a tiny pin point tip on it so i could focus it where i wanted i also used it when i reassembled the carbs on the screw threads just 2 drops on the threads while i was fitting everything together and i didnt have one tough screw

I cannot remember or find the name for that little screen thing with the brown bottom that attaches to I believe the needle valve seat. Anyone know? I cracked one of the sides of one taking it off before dip, also I punctured a hole in the middle of 1 o ring on the needle valve seat, it is not big and in the middle, will that be a problem since it will be compressed anyway's? please say no I do not want to order an entire new o ring kit....

DO NOT get any spray cleaner on those diaphrams they will get soft and get ruined. Just separte them from the needle holder and only clean the slides.

DO NOT use any grease or lubricant on the slides they will get lubed from the gasoline, otherwise they will stick in the up position and you will over rev your bike while riding. Happened to me when i cleaned my carbs had to take them apart and clean the slides again.

                        hope this helps.

Sorry, I just don't see this happening. The slides are not what controls engine speed, it's the mechanically-operated butterflies just downstream of the slides. If the slides stick in the UP position, you will get lousy throttle response at low throttle openings and maybe slightly richer operation due to the needle being up all the time, but it won't over rev your bike.

Also can't recommend separating the diaphragm from the slide. All the ones I have seen were a very tight press fit. The chances of getting that tight fit back are rather slim.

Any ideas on this, I just noticed the thread went to a new page so I don't want these questions neglected... Thanks for all your help everyone, #3 will be done tonight and #4 tomorrow then it should all come together...

What is the best way to get the o-ring off of the needle valve seat, it is not hard at all (new this summer), just a very tight fit and as I mentioned above I already punctured one getting it off.

and getting the diaphragm off of the slide just kind of stretch it off?

Thanks again Everyone for all your help with this I am sure I am getting to be a little annoying at this point.

On one of my bikes, the PO had installed slides incorrectly and they would stick in the UP position and this did cause the bike to rev uncontrollably. Was kinda fun to diagnose, carbs were spotless otherwise. Don't know why it happens though.

                                Indoor carb cleaning

I used Gunk and the smell of that stuff is hard to lose. If their are others living in the house you're going to make them cranky.

PS. If you have the resources, I picked up a heated ultrasonic jewelry cleaner from Harbor Tools with a 2 quart capacity for like 70.00 bucks. 20 minutes or so in the hot gunk (outdoors) and they were spotless.

The carb dip is pretty tough on the external plastic parts of the ultrasonic cleaner that are made of plastic so you have to keep it cleaned up pretty well as you go.
