    Motor Knock GS650GX, doh!!

Hey guys, I went to the shop today and pulled my zuk off the third floor and decided to start it up.. Well, right off it had a knock.I mean a KNOCK! So I remembered when I built the motor I dropped one of my new circlips for the piston pins and couldnt find it,so in the time crunch to make the show I went thru all the old ones and found the best one. So I figured that will learn me....that damm circlip probably popped out. Ripped the motor out of the bike and broke everything down. Nope, all the circlips still there. So split the cases.....there it was....the #4 conrod nuts had backed off...alot. The crank journel seems fine and the bearing does not look all that bad but just ordered a new one anyways. I went down the row and checked all the others to find they were all a bit off of torque.
I totally remember torqing them all in 2 stages..1st to 13 then to 24 ftlbs as per my oem suzuki manual..At least I think I remember, maybe, hmm..... Dont know exactly went wrong. If those really are the correct specs then it is obviously my fault. Which is possible I guess, I put that motor together at like 3 in the morning 2 days before the show. Maybe it is possible I only did the first stage of torque.
I am so disapointed in myself!! I will never, ever push myself on a deadline like that again.

sorry for the long rant, but needed to get it out.

Well, things happen when under the gun. It's common. You found the problem and can repair it. That's a good thing, you won't make the same mistake twice. Seen your pic's and you bike looks great !!!!!! bmac

Thanks BMAC, but I still feel like an a**. You are right though...it wont happen again.
There was also a little bit of oil leaking around the head gasket corners, I question if I put those orange O rings in right. When I talked to Athena during the build they said to place them metal side down on top of the headgasket.....??? I wonder.
That reminds me, I also did not know where the pear shaped O rings went, they said they were just included in the kit but not for my bike/year. Ok...fair enough, where do they go on the other year 650's?

That's too bad. I over tourqued one of the throttle linkage attachments made from cast aluminum on my GT550 and cracked it... and another time I stripped the thread threads on my Guzzi's oil pan. I've learned a lot lately.

Well ,now I am starting to doubt my trusty old torque wrench. I am going to borrow a friends brand new one and torque a few with his and mine and see is there is a difference. Cause it just has to be somethings fault other than mine....its just has to be.lol
