Throttle slow to return back

When i give my bike gas, as in revving it up, the gas grip/throttle, not sure what that would be called, is slow to return back to its starting position. Is the throttle rod supposed to be lubed? Not sure whats causing this to happen. I have to force the grip back to its starting position before i change gears when riding.

sounds like a bad throttle cable.

Cable could be bad. If you have a hanging idle it could be an air leak as well. Intake pipe O-rings are a common problem.

Or if you have barend weights they might be shoved up against the throttle. You may also need to pull the throttle off and clean the bar underneath and apply a thin film of light grease.

What year/model bike are we talking about? Do you have a single throttle cable or the dual push/pull type? Make sure the linkages on the carbs are well lubed. Yep, you could have a bad cable, or it could be kinked somewhere. Now let me roll out the welcome mat for you...

Dual cable or single?
Could be a bad cable. Poor routing. Poor slack/play adjustment. Lack of lubing. Grip rubbing the housing or no friction reducer ring between the grip and housing. Throttle pulley sticking or a weak/incorrect return spring. Sticking slide inside the carb(s)...
Inspect the cable(s). If OK, lube them. Then adjust play (if dual) by zeroing out the play at the decelerator/push cable and then introducing about 1/8" of play at the accelerator/pull cable. Make sure the grip isn't too hard against the housing.

Yes its a dual, and we are talking about 77 GS750. This should get me started. I have tinkered with the throttle cables recently, after putting in new floats, and i did try backing off the nuts to the push/pull throttle cables before with not much luck. I will give it another shot, also I taped up the grip with electrical tape because it was tearing apart, and the spring by the push pull nuts is old and rusty, so prossess of elimination at this point. Thanks for the input.
